The post has a Gothic look. It has rust, but in good shape.
It would make a great focal point in the vintage garden. Gate post measures approximately 60 inches tall and 6 wide each. The post came from very old 1800s Southern Home in Montgomery Alabama. It is of iron and In good condition with obvious rust from age of being outside but the old patina adds a real authentic nostalgic look. This cast iron posts are one part of this Southern Antique collector's possessions, who as the old homes were destroyed back in the 1930's- 1950'd, this collector carefully salvaged the old mantles and stored in for more than half of a century. Maybe the collector didn't even remember where it was stored or why he had saved it all those years. Maybe just because he liked it, with no use in mind. But the fact remains that, in depths of the Great Depression when the decorative features of razed residences might be had, at least, for carting them away at most, for a song. This collector did a lot of singing! His acquisitions, in any event are incorporated today in some of the old south's pretentious homes. He owned many old homes here and as they were torn down --he managed to salvage much of the fencing, marble mantles, brass door knobs.. Posts of this type were popular in the late 1800's and beginning of 20 th century to grace the mansions built more than a Century ago.
The post is a handsome architectural accent and would look great with a vintage home. Weight per post is about 40 pounds. This item is in the category "Antiques\Architectural & Garden\Garden".The seller is "deepsouthc" and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States.
